I bought stainless steel containers for specialty salts. Must be a cheap grade of stainless as they are rusting through. Will not purchase again. I have plastic covers that seal the lids from moisture and they are still rusting.
My husband does most of the cooking, and has always loved the two of these dredges that he has for salt and pepper. However, he wondered if he could get some for his other seasonings, and when I found this set I was delighted. They are well made, sturdy and just what we needed. He just marks on top with a grease pen (whatever spice he has inside) and now he has six of them. One could also just put a label on the side, of course. The handles are perfect for when you are cooking and need to add an extra dash of cinnamon or old bay or whatever. They are not bad looking and really easier to handle that the usual spice jars. An additional bonus is that if you like to cook a lot you can buy your seasonings in bulk and save a little money. Just fill up your dredges and have what you need on hand for quite a while. This was a great find and an excellent purchase. I believe you can also purchase them individually if you do not need four.
Great addition to my kitchen! The holes are larger than on regular table top salt and pepper shakers, so you can dispense faster without the risk of pouring too much. You could use these for table top shakers if you wish, though they are not labeled with an S or P. I use mine for salt, pepper, popcorn salt, and sugar, marked accordingly with a basic label-maker.
I took a chance on this 4-pack. The product detail and product description have conflicting info. I noticed the same seller also had listed a single dredge with the same picture. I needed three, but getting the 4-pack was better pricing. As opposed to $4.41 each, I got the 4-pack for $11.99, and afterwards saw it drop down to $9.99.
Here is the correct product info: * The label has model # SLRDH001, 10OZ DREDGE WITH HANDLE. (Google this model # or search Amazon to find the single item listing.) * Made in India. (Not China, where unfortunately you must be weary of items coming in contact with your food.) * Height is 3 7/8 inches. * Diameter/width 2 3/4 inches. (Measured across top of lid.) * Width with handle is 3 7/8 inches.
I wouldn't agree that these are commercial quality, just your basic every day product. Most every dredge I viewed is either aluminum or stainless steel, so unless you find one made of sterling silver, the dredge is simply a $4-5 product, max. The handles appear to be glued, yet one of them has a few welding marks. You wouldn't find that on commerical quality. However, since I plan to keep my in the cabinet, I'll keep.
Pricewise, this was the best deal on Amazon. I'm very pleased. If I should have any issues with corrosion, as one reviewer noted on the single item, I'll update.
Great price for these, but the holes in the top are too tiny! If you're the sort of person buying these, chances are you've got a variety of spice mixes you'd like to put in them. I was incredibly disappointed to discover that nothing larger than a grain of table salt is getting through these. Absolutely useless for anything other than the finest-grain spices.
I got these to use as flour shakers when making pasta. I caught a video with a woman using something similar and thought I would give it a try. These are awesome. Their only downfall is that they have no top to seek the bugs out. I ended up using only 1 at a time with very little flour in them and then removing the excess for food safety issues! They do work very well around the house for other uses. Just think twice if using in the kitchen. Item will become stale quickly or can become contaminated with bugs...3 Stars because they work well but not good for my intended use and I feel most who buy these will intend to use them for food!
The first one Ateco 4 Ounce Stainless Steel Shaker I tried was great until I tried to reopen it to refill it. I was never able to get it open, even with tools like a pipe wrench. So even though it was half the price... I got only one fill, so that was poor value.
The third was the norpro Norpro 199 Sugar and Flour Shaker, It was ok but the mesh let too much cinnamon out for my taste. I gave up on it.
The Kaiser cost a few dollars more than the others but it is a much better product. It is easy to open and refill, I have been using it for several months and have had no issues. I saw someone else had problems with the screen, but mine fits perfectly and give a nice fine dusting of cinnamon. I wish I had saved all that money on poor performing products, and gotten the Kaiser.
I bought a set of these to use in our RV, I used them for salt, pepper, cinnamon and sugar and meat rub. I love them, the tops come off easily they wash nice, so in my opinion the work great! If you are looking for something that is durable check these out !! They would be great for use on a barbecue grill area!
I cook often and recently purchased a commercial counter-top griddle and I really love it. It makes cooking so much more fun as well as faster. I purchased a set of these dredges for my most commonly used spices such as ground pepper, sea salt, garlic powder. I use the forth one for flour. These are not really heavy duty but they are of commercial quality. I didn't have the problems with the lids as some have complained about. Maybe they have fixed that issue.
