    It seems delicate, but I think that's what I like about it. I won't lie, it actually came like a week later than it was supposed to which DID kind of have me worried someone stole it from my mail (we've got a looootttttt of little kids around here who don't know better...) but it finally DID arrive and i was pleased by the quality of it, soooooo 5 stars anyway, since the qulity kind of won me over.     I have been adding powdered Vitamin C to my bread dough. Before getting a HIC Porcelain Mortar and Pestle I had been using a plastic screw-type pill crusher. The crusher was something of a one trick gimmick. Rarely did I get a fully powdered pill. The mortar and pestle works every time; even if it can take a little extra time.

    Any portions of the two parts you are likely to be holding are fairly easy to grip. The working parts, the end of the pestle and the bowl of the mortar have a rough finish making it easier to grind down the pills.
    These same parts can take some extra effort to clean. These are dish washer safe and feel sturdy enough that they should not chip or break in the dish washer. I have used a plastic scrubber sponge and had good results hand washing.
    Compare with the large screw type pill crusher, the mortar and pestle may require more hand strength and dexterity. The screw type may be better for those with arthritis.

    Then again the M and P has more uses, for instance crushing herbs or seeds.

    My bottom line: I like the HIC Porcelain Mortar and Pestle and look forward to using it for any of its several applications. Otherwise I cannot say that my bread dough raises any more for the addition of the vitamins.

    I bought this item to grind powder type substances but the interior is totally unfinished and you can't completely remove the previous substance from this product. For the price look at other mortar and pestle sets. I wish I had never bought this piece of junk. It's way too expensive and a very cheap product. Keep on looking, buy a different product!!!!

    I needed something to use to blend small amounts of spices together before adding to meats and stews. I think that grinding my dried spices together before using them seems to help them blend together and really brings out that fresh ground flavor! It is very small so it doesn't take up a lot of kitchen space in my cabin and is very well made.

    Beautiful Mortar and Pestle. The item arrived on time and wrapped perfectly so there was no damage. I have used this item multiple times.

    I would like to note the size of this is small, which was perfect for my use. My intended us is for herbs and things such as Chia Seeds (to make an egg substitute). I really can't use this for anything larger than herbs, pills etc. The size was explained in the description, and the price perfectly reflects this as well as the quality.

    It is durable and easy to use and clean. With the amount of herbs I grind, I was actually impressed with how the item hasn't stained at all! Overall, a steal of a purchase.
