What makes this product “pure”?

To be classified as “Pure” by the FDA, extracts must meet a set of strict requirements. These requirements include that pure vanilla extract must contain 13.35 ounces of vanilla beans per gallon of liquid and be 35% alcohol. The agency also limits the permissible ingredients beyond beans and alcohol. We use the “Pure” classification because we only use all-natural ingredients and follow FDA guidelines for creating our extracts.

How does Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract differ from Pure Vanilla Extract?

Our Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract is produced using only premium, hand-selected beans cultivated in Madagascar, widely regarded as the world’s highest quality vanilla, and has a rich, sweet and creamy vanilla flavor. Our Pure Vanilla Extract uses a proprietary blend of high-quality vanilla beans grown around the world and is specially formulated to provide a classic vanilla flavor profile.

Why is there sugar in the extract?

Sugar is one of five permissible ingredients the FDA allows in pure vanilla extracts. It helps in the extraction process by keeping the extracted vanilla compounds in suspension, aiding in product clarity. We use 100% all-natural, crystalized cane sugar for its reliable quality and taste. The sugar content in our extract makes up less than 5% of the finished product, an amount that is nutritionally insignificant when a small quantity is added to a dish. We do not add any extra sugar after the extraction process.

What is the origin of this vanilla?

The vanilla beans used to create our Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract are sourced from the island of Madagascar, located just off the southeastern coast of Africa. Madagascar is the world’s leading supplier of vanilla beans, and we hand-select the beans used to ensure the finished product is of the highest quality.

Is there bourbon whiskey in this product?

No, the term Bourbon is only a geographic reference to where the vanilla beans are sourced. The Bourbon Islands–Madagascar, Comoro, Réunion, Seychelles and Mauritius–are located off the eastern coast of Africa. While there is a small amount of alcohol in our extracts due to our production process, most it will either be cooked off during preparation or spread throughout the entirety of your dish.

This thick syrup tastes of vanilla and bourbon. Yum.In the first pics notice that it comes with a recipe for creme anglaise; a nice touch. The rest of the pics I'm trying to give you an idea of how thick this syrup is.Pic 3: bowl tilted straight up and down.Pic 4: bowl set down flat and drew my finger through the syrup.Pic 5: 2 minutes later it hasn't run completely together.I was sorry to see buyers who received their bottles broken. The little slider-box is pretty sturdy and Amazon packs it in a larger box with padding ... but if you hit the bigger box just right, I'll bet you could break it.If you're looking for something new in vanilla, the seeds of vanilla beans in your cooking, and the intrigue of a tidge of bourbon, splurge and buy this! I will NEVER run out of this. This vanilla quickly became a permanent part of my kitchen. If you are used to alcohol based vanilla extract, you are in for a serious treat. And if you've been getting the cheap stuff at the grocery store, you are in for the vanilla heaven surprise of your LIFE! I bought this with one intention - I wanted to make vanilla whipped cream for pancakes and waffles (YUM!), and found that vanilla extract affected the flavor and texture of the cream with the alcohol taste. This has no alcohol and is much more concentrated in flavor and body. So . . . .after having a culinary orgasm with the vanilla whipped cream waffle . . . . I poured the rest of my mix into my fresh roasted coffee. O. M. G. To die for. Holy crap, there IS a food god and she (yes, she) blessed all of us with this amazing product. Ok, so then my wife and I both got a bit obsessed with this vanilla flavor and started experimenting and putting it in everything. Here are some other uses we didn't think of at first but turned out to be absolutely AWESOME:
* Mix with cinnamon and maple syrup and spread on toast or French toast
* Mix in a tablespoon into cola for the most AMAZING vanilla soda
* Add some to bread or cake - it works great in a breadmaker machine without affecting the recipe
* Mix with coconut oil and coffee grinds to make an amazing vanilla latte body scrub (my wife's idea)
* Add to your smoothie.
* Pour over ice cream
* Make the most fantastic home-made ice cream - We use either raw milk cream or coconut cream with sugar and this vanilla in our Cuisinart ice cream maker
So there ya have it, our best ideas for vanilla pleasure. Out of all the uses, my favorite is mixing this with cream in my coffee and laugh at how Starbucks doesn't even come close to how amazing my morning coffee is (:

This stuff costs a lot compared to what you guy in your local grocery. However this offers far superior quality and flavor to the imitation stuff off the shelf. I accidentally purchased the paste instead of the liquid, but it's totally interchangeable in baking. Hurts to pay that much, but comes across wonderfully in the flavor of my baked goods.

I created a new sweet potato pie recipe, this time using sweet potatoes smoked in apple wood, and this particular vanilla gave my pie the extra layer of flavor I wanted. Note: a little bit of this vanilla goes a LONG way.

I was introduced to this vanilla paste several years ago in our local kitchen specialty store while attending a cinnamon roll making class and loved the flavor that it brought to the food. This bottle is my 3rd or 4th purchase and it has never disappointed. I love the rich vanilla flavor that it brings to my food, something that imitation vanilla just can't match. The vanilla bean flecks are a nice touch, too, to see in the foods where they are visible. (I also use a clear vanilla for those foods where I don't want the flecks but that's a different product review -- for most foods, it either doesn't matter or enhances the final product.)

I can unequivocably recommend this product! Since I was introduced to this product, there have been several other competitors pop up with what look to be comparable products; however, I like this one so much that I've not tried those competitor's products so your mileage may vary. For me, I'm sticking with this tried-and-true vanilla bean paste. Try it once and despite the higher price over artificial vanilla, you'll fall in love with the richer flavor profile and not go back to the cheaper stuff.

I use this vanilla for my ice cream and my baking. I knocked off one star for value for the money. It is market value, but vanilla has become very expensive in the last few years. I think this is the best I can buy. I look at the price per bottle. I bought 2 because it dropped the unit price percentage. This changes all of the time so make your best choice when you order. This is very shelf stable so even though it might take me months to use 1 - 4oz bottle, I know the extra bottle will be fine. When I first bought this vanilla years ago I got a 32oz bottle for about the same price as 2 - 4oz jars. Still worth it as it lasts a long time and everything costs more now.

The smell is incredible. I bake a lot and I am a heavy handed vanilla user so I was iffy about buying on here but it’s fantastic, more like a molasses type consistency, the smell/taste just improves everything I bake. I have always bought real vanilla but this is definitely a step up in quality. I feel like I’m going through it very fast I barely have half left so the cost is high if you use as often as me. -But worth it!
