I ordered two bottles from this seller and it took me 11 months to go through the first one before finding out the second one was defective and poorly canned (no vacuum lock, loose lid, contents bubbled up and dried around the lid; all signs of spoilage), which was discovered ONLY after the red, plastic shrink wrap was taken off when I was finally ready to use it. The seller REFUSED to make an exchange because my order was made 11 months ago... It takes me a long time to get through just one bottle, as most people who eat spicy food in moderation. This means people ordering multiple bottles from this seller will have to open ALL of their bottles and store them ALL in their refrigerator just to safeguard against both losing money and the company or seller's unreliable (and dangerous) canning or storage practices, which makes the bottles ripe for deadly toxins and food born illnesses.
I had never tried jerk seasoning before, but I like spicy food so I figured I'd go for it. I put some of it on chicken, let it marinate and grilled it. It has quite a unique taste, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. Also it wasn't as spicy as I expected it to be
If you know you like jerk chicken, then I'd say to go for it. This stuff is the real deal, made with the traditional ingredients.
Edit: I have used this seasoning on pork several times, it is fantastic. Don't really know why it is so much better on pork than chicken. Be careful using an indoor grill pan with this, sometimes it make choking hot pepper fumes if the heat is too high.
Very nice! Just as I remembered from the Cayman Islands. Mix with a little rum and soak chicken or pork. Slow grill to keep moisture in and this will blow you away with flavors and some nice heat. I have also added it to canned black beans and put it over rice for a nice island side dish. Keeps a while in the fridge but will loose heat eventually. Wife added some to cornbread mix. Pretty good. Shipping was as much as the product. Will make more of an effort to find it local due to shipping costs. Product is fine mon...
I love anything spicy, and I must say, this is hands down the best jerk seasoning I have ever tried. The flavor is wonderful, but be warned, it is hot. It is so hot, my girlfriend couldn't even finish her chicken. I was sweating by the time the meal was over, but I enjoy this. I have been to Jamaica before, and it is dead on accurate. Be warned, a little goes a long way. I let my chicken marinade overnight, and it was delicious. I have ordered the mild version, so my girlfriend can eat it too. I will do a review on that when it arrives. Trust me though, I'm a pretty good cook, and the flavors are exactly right for this. Highly recommend.
I bought Jamaica Jam Down Jerk sauce while at a Sandels resort. I absolutely loved it. I spoke with a guy who was our taxi driver in Jamaica and he told me about this product. It is very good, very spicy
I first brought this home from one of three trips to Jamaica, and it is most emphatically the real deal. Hot to the point of masochism, but throttle back a little on the amount and you catch the tremendous complexity of the flavors; the scallions mellow and deepen the Scotch bonnet pepper assault. As good as it gets; I go through 3-month periods in which it gets added to sandwiches, omelets, egg salad, tuna salad and nearly everything else that's worth preparing. Great marinade for a filet: teaspoon of jerk seasoning, tablespoon each of Worcestershire sauce, Asian sesame oil, red wine vinegar. Give it a day or two and pop on the grill or grill pan. Repeat as needed.
....but you really don't need to. I have tried other jerk recipes. I have bought other jerk recipes. I prefer to make my own of just about anything. This is one that you can save yourself some time and still end up with better taste. There are not many things I say something like that about when it comes to food. Homemade is usually better. Products like Walkerswood keep from saying always instead of usually. Perfect heat on this seasoning. Jerk is supposed to be hot. This will satisfy hot lovers but not burn up those who are sensitive. Great product.
I purchased this item on October 24th, and it arrived today 12/5/16. I cannot tell you the plans I had for my Westwood traditional Jerk Seasoning, Oh, they were big, glorious plans! Well, ultimately, the plans were mostly for my mom...for my mom to work her culinary magic and make us (OK, ME) some Jerk chicken. How old am I you ask? I am 45 years old and not ashamed of that fact that when my momma comes to town she does all the cooking, is she happy about doing all the cooking? I dunno, that's besides the point! So anyhoo, when my eyes gazed upon this box that looked like it was used as a hockey puck, I mustered up a strength from deep within and began ever so gently to open the box. First thing I noticed was how wonderful it smelled when I opened the box, then as tears welled in my eyes, thats when It hit me, THE BOTTLE WAS SMASHED TO PIECES, JUST LIKE MY JERK CHICKEN DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!! 😢
Drop a tablespoon of this stuff along with a tablespoon of olive oil into a ziploc bag full of chicken thighs. Squish it around for a minute and wait a couple hours. Then cook in a smoky BBQ with medium indirect heat.
Warning: this is the hot version of this sauce. There's a mild version too. If you and your guests are not acclimated to spicy food I'd recommend the mild version.
