Nice compact feeder, well made, easy to use

Nice compact feeder, well made, easy to use
Great little product to help in feeding my fish. I got this more for the times when I will be gone from home for more than a few hours. I raise cichlids, and you don't want them to be hungry because they will bite each other. I use small pellet cichlid food, and it works well in this feeder. It was a littler tricky putting the feed holder back onto the timer unit, but patience paid off. It fit perfect on the side of my tank. It holds tightly against the side of the tank. It has an adjustment for how much food it dispenses. It does not dispense the exact amount of food each time, but that is to be expected, and my fish don't seem to mind a little extra food. The time and timer were easy to setup. I am very happy with the purchase of this automatic feeder. It is just what I needed. I have 3 tanks currently, and another to be setup soon. I will be buying feeders for each of them.

This works very well. It also can be used with flakes which many cannot handles. It is unobtrusive and can be placed in an out of the way place. It is "dose oriented" which makes it easy to control the feeding -- each revolution of the drum provides 1 unit (dose) of food. And there is an option to have 1 or 2 doses with each feeding. I would have liked the ability to go up to 4 or 5 as the limit of 2 works extremely well for small ponds or water features or tanks. But for larger fish or larger tanks, ponds, it is not enough. I am using with 16 fancy goldfish that range from 9 inches to 1.5 inches and the 2 rotations are just enough. It can be programmed for up to 4 feedings a day with all kinds of ways to do every other day or any schedule you might want

I would have given 5 stars were it not for the lack of decent instructions on how to set the feeding times, dosages etc. I am a computer programmer and After two hours I could not figure it out from the instructions. My wife who is smarter than I am spend 3 hours and with a lot of trial and error finally figured it out. It is actually quite easy once you know what to do. It took less than 5 minutes to set up a very complex feeding plan AFTER you have figured it out. The instructions are terrible.

One thing I would have liked to know is how long the batteries will last. The major energy draw is each rotation of the drum, so it would be quite easy to report the average number of doses that we could get from a single battery. I personally would also like to have a power socket so I do not have to use the batteries but can plug in a 3 volt transformer.

The price is excellent for what you get here IF you don't count the time you will spend figuring out how to set the values. If you do count that, it costs hundreds of dollars and even more. In contrast, I do not know how good the instructions are for other models. They all seem to be made in China

I made the mistake and didn't look carefully enough that this only feeds small pellets. So I went and bought small pellets. Then I tried putting it on my fish tank. I have a little lip, maybe 1/4 inch then a part that sticks out to hold the aquarium light. There is no way this will fit on. I tried to use the velcro tape pieces they give and it still wouldn't work. It actually fell into the water. I figured I could get it to stay on the tank, so I filled it with food. It was a big pain to put the food container back onto the timer section. It only goes on one way (which makes sense) but it is hard to put on without hitting the timer settings. Once I got the food on, I wanted to test to see how much food would dispense. The first go around (and I kept retrying and refilling and retrying), I always got a handful of food which was way too much for the turtles. Subsequent turns gave varying amounts of food from almost none to way too much. I never knew how much food was going to be dispensed. I packed it up and am sending it back.

Careful if you have a covered top on the tank and/or hood. This was designed to mount on the side of a typical glass tank. I had to customize it to fit on my tank. The directions are somewhat difficult to read (magnifying glass) and understand -- which is somewhat typical of these little products made in China. Setting it up took some time and it is crude. Will not hold or emit enough food for my tank for more than 3 days.

I ordered a marble mortar and pestle to crush my kitty cats medication into a fine powder so that I could sprinkle it on her food daily. She refuses to swallow whole pills, so I bought this for her a few weeks ago. It turns out that marble powder gets mixed in with the pills from the grinding/muddling action because the end of the pestle and the inside of the mortar were not polished like its outside surface. I had been feeding my kitty marble powder in addition to her meds unknowingly for weeks!!!! I stopped using it immediately and researched what material is best for a mortar and pestle that will be used to crush medication. I found that stainless steel is the best.

This product is the perfect size and it does an even better job at grinding her medication into a fine powder, than the marble one. I was SO surprized...shocked even.... at how heavy duty this was. It is actually heavier than the marble mortar and pestle! I was expecting it to be made of a light weight stainless steel and a light weight or hollow pestle! It is built solid and the medication is so easy to crush. Very little effort is needed. My kitty eats her food regularly even though there is clearly a white powder sprinkled on it. I am assuming that's because the medication is odorless.

Many types of products now-a-days are often made cheaply and quickly just to so the manufacturer can make a quick buckI Little effort goes into quality and customer satisfaction. I rarely come across quality products and when I do, I like to share it with others. It comes with a lid, but I haven't needed to use it because I only crush 10-12 tablets at a time and they do not fly out of the mortar. Thank you Klaren for putting out such a high quality product!
