Awesome! This is a good sized mortar bigger than the picture looks, the pestle is just the right size to be comfortable in the hand and long enough you won't tire as quickly when grinding something difficult like a resin like myrrh or an fibrous incense wood or root like sandalwood chips or galangal root (information for you incense makers) its a medium sized tool (according to my small mortar and my tiny 2" travel mortar) it's got a heavy weight to it, but its a good weight, a satisfying kind of weight that tells you this is solid rock of a quality material it will last years. The stone itself is so beautiful you consider displaying it, as a curio, or as something unusual like a planter or vase for a florist fake flower arrangement, for example. As for the bad reviews if there are more detailed information in positive feedback than negative feedback try considering the purchase as worth it. As for me, this is to make incense, next month I WILL be buying this again for my kitchen use. So there.

A beautiful finish on the outside except for a chip, but the inside is very rough with heavy ridges from the cutter that drilled it out. The pestal is not smooth on the bottom and very rough. The size is nice, but very poor quality. I wouldn't buy it if I could see this first. Not worth the time to ship back.
