I'm in love with this. I like practical tools in the kitchen and this is one of them if you only need it for light domestic use - certainly not the piece for a professional kitchen. Nutmegs are my special seasoning, so it is used everyday in a couple of dishes, can it be eggs, mashed potatoes, porridge, my morning latte, or anything else I feel like.

One whole nutmeg goes a long way (once one side goes flat, you just need to turn it), the grinder is easy to load/unload as it is very easy to open (I don't know what the other reviewer was complaining about). It is a hygienic piece as you won't be handling nutmegs with your hands all the time, and it is always ready to use in no wasting time. Also, for the price, it is a steal. I'm glad I haven't spent a fortune buying the Peugot I was planning before.

Extra nutmegs can be kept in their own container at the back of the kitchen cabinet, I don't need a grinder to be used as storage.

I ordered this as a replacement grinder for the one that broke when I dropped it. This one is similar to what I had, which means that it works just fine as a grinder. The biggest problem is that the plastic is very breakable. The first two I received from Amazon were both broken in shipment. The third one arrived intact. Just have to be careful not to drop it.

For the curious about the mechanism:
The way this grinder works (my first nutmeg grinder, btw) is having a small three-pronged "claw" at the bottom of the center shaft, which has a spring around it: the claw digs into the nutmeg while the spring pushes the nutmeg down to keep it in place while you spin the handle. The bottom (sort of a pencil sharpener for nutmeg) has a little slit w/ a blade that gnaws at the nutmeg in every turn. However, the spring is kind of weak (it has to be, since you have to push against it to close the lid), so the nutmeg grind is veeeery sparse. Just a few specks of nutmeg per turn. It takes a really, really long time to fill a teaspoon with this baby!! Safer than a microplane, but not really practical.

It looks cute, but I would not recommend anyone to spend the money on this.

This nutmeg grinder is great - you store the nutmeg inside and just grind as much as you need each time. You don't have to clean it after each use and there is no waste. It does a great job of grinding the nutmeg with very little effort. You don't have to worry about slipping and scraping your fingers like you do with a traditional grater. For the price, this is a very worthwhile addition to the kitchen!

I really wish I could review this product, but after getting 3 broken ones, I've given up!
First off, I want to say that Amazon Customer Support is wonderful and have been more then helpful about this issue whenever I've contacted them. I've no complaint with them.
No, my complaint is with a shipping carrier named ParcelPool.
The fist time I ordered this it came in a box with several other items in an order. It had a chip in the side. Still usable, but I was worried about how it would affect everything long term, so I sent it back for a replacement.
The replacement came in a lightly bubblewrapped envelope, no box. It was more then a little broken and I called customer support to try and see if they could make sure a third grinder could be shipped in a box. The rep was very courteous and said she made a note of it and I waited for my nutmeg grinder.
It came in an envelope again and without even opening it, I could hear the broken pieces when I gave it a light shake.
If I had a choice, I'd never use Parcel Pool again, however I never know who handles my order when I place it on Amazon until after it's shipped, it's all luck of the draw.
I hate being so negative, but this is completely unacceptable.

I needed a "reasonably priced" nutmeg grinder for my spice drawer and after doing a quick survey here on Amazon, I chose this one.

It can grind one whole nutmeg nut at a time. Removing the top is a bit problematic until you get the hang of how it's attached. Once you figure it out, removing and replacing the top is not a big issue. Instructions are printed on a very small booklet attached to the grinder but I didn't find them very helpful.

When grinding, it creates a medium small grind which is fine for my use. One minor note, I had hoped that I could store extra nutmeg in the upper portion of the grinder however no such luck - there's not enough room.

The grinder is by no means, industrial strength or designed for everyday use but, if you need a light duty grinder for occasional fresh nutmeg - check this one out. It works and is reasonably priced.

This is the second nutmeg grater I have owned--the first having disappeared somewhere between NJ and MI. I loved the first one; wood outside, easy to insert the nut and easy turning. This one is lucite, which I prefer to avoid, but it is the closest to my previous grater. I had some difficulty removing the bottom to put in the nut but once I did that, the grater worked just fine. Great service from Amazon, as usual.

This little grinder is perfect if you just need some fresh nutmeg; however, it is very slow and takes a lot of effort to get much of anything useful for recipes ... Unless you choose to be a little more industrious and utilize the 5/16 nut on the top of the grinder. I'll leave it at that, but mind your knuckles and let it cool down between nuts ... megs ... not sure of the term there.
