already broken! made of cheap plastic.

already broken! made of cheap plastic.
Product arrived broken. Mostly made of plastic! What I thought was just a viewing window appears to be the actual cylinder that holds the contents of the mill. If the mill broke in transit somewhere along the line, I can not imagine it would last very long with actual use. The stand it came with appears cheap and the box that holds the set was busted open too, the whole contents were just floating around in the package it came it. Cheap mill, poor quality overall look, back it went. I would advise you research this mill and get a better quality one!

I bought these thumb grinders after watching an awesome bartender use them while making cocktails.

What I love:
- They look cool. Very cool.
- They tactile response from using this product is very nice. It's fun to use.
- Great for seasoning small items like an egg. Not so great for seasoning a large pan of food.

What I don't love:
- It takes a lot of force to actually use this product. If you're a child, or an adult with weak hands, you might not be able to use this mill.
- The mills aren't perfectly made, and take some effort to re-assemble when adding ingredients.
- The little plastic base that comes with the mills is too shallow to do much; the mills still fall over.

I really like this set. I think my friend had one from C&B, which I used at a dinner party, and this was just like the same thing when you get it in hand. We keep 1 salt, 1 pepper out on the table...I thought I could use this for a pepper mill while cooking, but it's really not good for that, in my opinion. Also, even though I could do it with my thumb, I do sometimes just use my palm to pound it out. I have a 5yr old, and he can't manage with his thumb. Overall, these are really excellent and someone who came over asked for the same, so I ordered another as a gift. The metal is of decent weight and quality. The inside mechanism seems good, too. So far, so good

I was very disappointed in these salt and pepper shakers for the price. They look nice but I find it very difficult to actually grind the salt and pepper, having to continuously press down only to have a very small amount come through. I also noticed they turned my salt a strange yellow color after a few weeks. I don't know if this was because somehow a little water got in, or what, but not what you want your salt to look like. Sadly these went in the trash and I went for a more traditional grinder:  Olde Thompson 6-Inch Caffee Espresso Peppermill and Salt Shaker . Although not as sleek as the stainless steel, they actually work.

These mills are very convenient and simple to use. Great for cooking and for use at the table. Unfortunately, the clear plexiglass window snapped off just above the threads connecting the two metal components, making one of them unusable after only a few months of regular use.

These are great. My husband and I had discovered these types of salt and pepper shakers years ago in a restaurant and loved them. I ended up buying a set at crate and barrel. After years of use and leaving them too close to the stove I had to replace them. These appear to me to be identical to the ones at crate and barrel, but half the price. The stand is nice to have, but it is crooked like other reviews said, but it really doesn't matter. You don't need the stand. We use ours even though it it crooked. LOVE these salt and pepper shakers.

Things things work okay, as long as you don't want any volume at all. You might get five to ten grains per depression. That's fine if your food is already seasoned well, but if you want to use them for actual cooking? Forget it. They also jam up frequently, maybe once out of five depressions. This was stated in reviews I read, but I underestimated my annoyance with the jamming.

One other thing: in the acrylic base that comes with it, one hole is not level so that one grinder is straight and the other is drunkenly tilted. Is that a big deal for a cheap grinder set? Maybe not. You decide.

My girlfriend doesn't mind this set, but I can't wait to get a set I can actually cook with.

They work well and hold more than I thought. The reason for only 4 stars is the threads on the pepper shaker were kind of damaged and it was very hard to screw it back together.
