The grinder that I got was not the one in the pictures and since I was trying to match one that I already had, I was very disappointed. I will be returning this… Not because of functionality, but because it is not what is pictured.

We use a lot of pepper. This grinder dumps much more pepper than I expected for a $12.99 unit. It's very powerful, easy to adjust and fill, and is very good at making my mashed potatoes "look mean!" It grinds pepper much faster than my manual grinder and it's also easy to use with arthritis. It takes four AA batteries unlike most others that take three, but after almost three months of heavy use it's still going strong. The picture on the box was of the rounded top model. The unit I received is a flat top model. That's no problem for me. This thing works great! I highly recommend this grinder. And now I'm going to have dinner and make my smashed potatoes look mean! Yum!

This is not "heavy-duty." Our family is huge; we have 2-3 Webers, going for gatherings. This thing is very slow and frustrating when you're trying to cook and season food while grilling. I will continue to use my hand grinder, which blows this thing away. If you are having breakfast and have high blood pressure, but need some salt or pepper on your over-easy eggs; this thing is okay. If you're seasoning any quantity larger than that, you will be disappointed at its output.

For the price, this is a solid electric pepper and salt mill and it is an attractive design for our modern kitchen. I would give it 5 stars except that after 6 months, the grinder we use for Himalayan pink salt has stopped working.

We have four of these units, for two types of salt and two types of pepper. We use the pink salt by far the most of the four. The electrical mechanism works, but now any salt or pepper we try to put through fails to grind. The motor is running, the grinder is turning, but when a seed or peppercorn is in the grinder, we hear a crackling sound, and nothing comes out, unless we open the coarseness, and then the entire seed or peppercorn or bit of salt comes out unground.

We have had many electric mills, so we know all the troubleshooting steps, and have done them all. Here's what we conclude. On this unit, there is no longer sufficient "down" pressure on the grinding mechanism to push the salt or pepper through. It's as if the spring has sprung and that's all she wrote. So for the price, we are willing to buy another unit. It's worth it to us to replace the whole thing rather than try to take this thing apart and go find another spring. So that's why it's 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, it's the best product of it's type we've found for our use. We have tried the electric mills at every price point, and for overall value, this one is the best value for us.

If the durability was just six months longer, I'd give it 5 stars without a doubt.

Update: My review stands. I ordered a replacement and my husband couldn't resist tearing apart the non-functioning unit to see what was wrong. Two things. We can see spots on the ceramic grinder where the veins are either ground down or filled with salt. But that isn't the issue. The salt can be cleaned out and anyway, it didn't account for the problem we experienced.

He unscrewed the plastic casing at the bottom of the battery/motor housing. There are two plastic gears that turn and drive the grinding shaft to spin. The teeth on the small gear were stripped out about a quarter of the circumference of that small gear making the turn of the shaft completely ineffective. So my review stands. I still really like this product and am willing to spend up to $15 every 6 - 8 months to replace it if needed. I'll give it 5 stars if it lasts a year grinding the Himalayan Pink Salt, and if it can last 2 years against that salt, I'd give it 5 stars AND pay more for it - say $25 (maybe even more.)

Lightweight with sturdy construction, these Mills have to be one of the best that I've ever seen. Not to mention they are not all that expensive. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for an inexpensive salt and pepper mill for the kitchen or dining area. The small LED lights on the bottom of these mills is a bonus as well.

So far I've used it with all my cooking and seems to work great. Easy to use and refill the pepper. My only issue with it is there are no instructions and I can't seem to adjust the size of the grinded pepper. Sometimes you get a big piece and can really taste it in your food.
