Purchased this mainly to grind seeds (flax and chia), and does so like a champ! I can fill it quite a bit with the seeds and they are ground in no time. I haven't used it for coffee yet, as I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but with the power it gives to the seeds, i'm sure it would be great with coffee beans.

I love the fact the cord coils up underneath it - great for those with a lack of storage space (like me) for appliances.

Only con I can think of - and it's probably due to the seeds - is that cleanup is a bit tricky, and takes a little while to get all the seed residue out.

    Otherwise, highly recommend!

Once you get used to the grinds sticking to the inside lid and shake them vigorously into the coffeemaker, then it's as good a grinder as any. The price was wonderful on it also. But, Amazon charged so much for shipping that it came out to be more than if I had bought a more expensive one in a local Target, Walmart, etc. (in CA!!).
I really resent the shipping charges. I know they have gone up, but it's not like it got here overnight. It took over a week for it to get here, first class mail. They shouldn't have charged me any more than 4.00$. Disgraceful and I'm getting real sick and tired of Amazon ripping me off with their shipping. I'm going back to eBay and specifically to the sellers who are fair with their shipping and handling costs.Otherwise, I'll just start going back into stores and buying.
Sorry Jeff. Get your company's shipping policy under control. It needs serious medication and/or institutionalization.

Had hoped to use this as a spice grinder. It does okay but I have to turn it upside down and sideways while pushing the on button to get the herb seeds into the blades for grinding and then it just works "sort of" and not that great. I'm currently still using it so it is better than nothing. Though am definitely on the lookout for something better.

We use this grinder only for flax seed and it works great. It's a little noisy, but overall that's a small complaint for such a well put together piece of kitchen equipment.

We've put up to a quarter of a cup of flax seed in it to grind, and in under a minute we have some very well ground seeds to put in our smoothies.

The design of the grinder is great, with the push button top running the motor only as long as you're pushing the button. The cap is secure, and there is basically no mess so cleanup is a breeze.

    Here's why:

    - It's a huge pain to clean: none of the parts are removable, and it has tons of little crevices where stuff gets stuck, so you're reduced to rubbing it down with a wet paper towel (you can't submerge any part of it either). Additionally, the bowl inside isn't fixed so it spins when you try to wipe it, and unless you have super tiny fingers there's no way you can get the underside of the blades clean- you will have to get used to that paprika taste in your coffee if you intend to grind spices too

    - The contruction is terrible: I've had it a month and the button that turns it on is already going.

Conclusion: Spend the extra $3 get something that isn't a piece of crap.

I bought this product because it's the least expensive model sold here in Amazon. I figured how bad could a relatively simple device with a singular function be? While the unit does grind coffee, it is relatively loud, messy, and takes longer.

Noise: It's (relatively) loud. This isn't a big deal if you're just at home but I use this in an office setting and I don't want to attract too much attention. No model is whisper quiet but the motor and beans produce quite a cacophony.

Mess: The design of the top fitting into the base isn't thought out. The plastic safety top fits around the base instead of going into it. As a result, there's some slight spillage of grounds when you take the top off. In addition, you'll be hard pressed if you want to pour the grounds into the top after grinding and then measure the grounds from there because there's a indentation in the top that prevents easy scooping, thereby producing more mess.

Grind quality: There is something is the blade design (I think because the blades sit a little higher from the bottom of the container) that prevents it from producing a fine grind no matter how long you hold the button.

The better models are those from Krups and Black & Decker. They are about $5 more but are worth it in terms of the above considerations.

I have never written a review before and have only had the Toastmaster Grinder for less than a month but I am very happy with it. I have only used it to grind flax seed, which is the reason I bought it. It is quick, 5 or 6 seconds, and it works perfectly. It is much less expensive than some of the other brands I looked at and it being electric instead of battery operated is no problem whatsoever for me. I would recommend buying this product if you are looking for an inexpensive but reliable coffee or spice grinder.

This is my first grinder. It works great. But it does make a mess when you take the lid off, the coffee grounds stick to the inside of the lid. I do tap on the lid before removing it or if you only grind a few beans like I do, I just tip it upside down and take the beans out of the lid. Way less mess!
