Unique, beautiful and practical NewBoo Mortar and Pestle by Totally Bamboo - the original bamboo cutting board company. Not only will this piece make a lovely counter display, you will also have a functional and durable kitchen tool ready-at-hand; use it to grind herbs and spices and other foods. Constructed of NewBoo, a lovely, distinctive and ecologically responsible material. NewBoo is made entirely from rapidly renewable bamboo, this newly developed material is completely "tree free", yet it invokes the warmth and beauty of an exotic tropical hard wood... all the sophisticated aesthetics yet none of the guilt. Originally developed for use as railroad ties in China, from this humble beginning Totally Bamboo recognized its potential and has refined the manufacturing process to its current form. Utilizing a specially developed system of heating pulverized bamboo fiber, it is then extremely compressed, permanently fusing it together utilizing a food safe adhesive to form a void-free block from which Totally Bamboo's NewBoo products are made.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Light weight, durable, visually appealing, and gets the job done. However, I will admit is rarely used in my kitchen but I am tough on these types of objects.
The bowl is slanted, so if you try to crush garlic in this, expect it the garlic cloves to end up on your counter, even after you slide the garlic to make it less slipper. The pestle is skinny - so what? You're supposed to chase the cloves and end up popping them up and over like tiddlywinks? I should have returned it. Total waste of money for what I need it for. And note it is tiny: 5 inches. If you want this to make a dish called Mofongo, forget it.
